The area that I have decided to explore is Times Square, which is located at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue. Ever since I was a young girl I would tune in to watch Carson Daly on TRL and countdown the seconds until the ball dropped on New Years Eve. In the background of all these exciting events on television I would see Times Square colorful lights bright up the city. I remember visiting Times Square with my eighth grade class and seeing the Naked Cowboy play his guitar and looking in awe at all the advertisements on the buildings.

I’ve always been interested in advertising and marketing, so I consider Times Square the

perfect place to explore. It is in the only neighborhood with ordinances requiring building owners to exhibit illuminated signs. The Times Square district is considered one of the most

sought-after areas for national and international advertising. The electronic screens and neon colors create quite the scene for the public. Everyday more than 10 million viewers see live shots of Times Square through nationally televised programs.

Times Square is nicknamed “The Crossroads of the World,” and has achieved the status of a landmark that symbolizes New York City and more importantly the United States. I believe this area best represents me because it is the place that I admired when growing up. I remember always begging my mom to bring me to Times Square so I could see all the lights and people. I consider myself a busy person and when I think of busy places Times Square comes to mind.

Different Places Advertising can be seen in Times Square:

  • Recepta Signs – Make over 1.5 million daily impressions
  • Street Pole Banners – are photographed more than 100 million times per year
  • ABC Super sign – 3,685-square foot electronic icon
  • Fox Screen by Sony – video display offers high definition images
  • MTV 44 ½ – offers the biggest HD video screen
